Distribution of Toxoplasma Antibodies among Human and Swines, as Revealed by Hemagglutination Test

Abstract
In order to know the distribution of Toxoplasma antibody among Korean people and swines, author performed survey of Toxoplasma antibody by means of hemagglutination test. On the other hand, a total number of 50 swine diaphragms was examined by means of mouse inoculation method in order to find out the infection source of Toxoplasmosis. The results were as follows:
1. The hemagglutination test for the human sera collected from In-patient of University Hospital and from other people, was conducted and it was indicated that 12 out of 110 sera from In-patient (10.9%) and 1 out of 18 from other people were positive using criterion at the antibody titer more than 1:512. The all-over positive rate was 10.2% in 128 persons.
2. The positive rate of new-born babies (9.1%) showed comparatively higher than that of the mother (3.7%), in pairs of mothers and their new-born babies examined. The possible explanation of the reason why the babies with positive reactions come from the HA negative mothers was desirable.
3. In case of swines, the positive rate, 19 out of 70 (27.2%) were detected by hemagglutination test.
4. The cyst of Toxoplasma gondii were isolated from 3 out of 50 porks, the detection rate being 6.0%.
